Symbolism in Anatolian Seljuk Art and Architecture
Art and Architecture Historian Prof. Dr. Ali Uzay Peker works as a faculty member at the Department of Architecture of Middle East Technical University. Lecturing on early Islamic, Seljuk, Ottoman, Renaissance and Baroque architectural traditions, Peker's expertise focuses on medieval architectural symbolism, cosmology and the eighteenth century. In these fields, he has published articles and book chapters in various national and international environments and also compiled books. In his publications on medieval architectural symbolism, he revealed the conceptual backgrounds of architectural symbols and showed the original meanings of forms and spaces. In one of his studies on the eighteenth century, he explained the construction purpose and meanings of the Istanbul Nuruosmaniye Mosque. Ali Uzay Peker received his doctorate from Istanbul Technical University, his master's degree from Boğaziçi University, and his undergraduate degree from Istanbul University. He has undertaken various duties such as lecturer, academic administrator, project coordinator, EU project expert/referee, Bolgna Expert until today.
